Back to the Beginning

I slept in this morning, despite my plans of waking up early and taking a trip into the city around the time I will be going in tomorrow for work, and I have not a single regret about doing so! After waking up, working out, and making myself a tasty breakfast, I got ready for the day and headed out of my house JUST in time to catch the bus pulling up.

I made my trial-run work commute with no problems, and it took about an hour (which is good to know for tomorrow). The weather today was absolutely WONDERFUL so I decided to walk around my work site to kill sometime. After passing Crumbs Cupcake Shop and doing everything in my power to stop myself from trying their cupcake of the month, caramel apple, I went into "Hale and Hearty," a salad, soups, and sandwich place right near work.

This was my favorite part of the day... After selecting the ingredients for my salad and picking up an oatmeal raisin cookie, I snatched myself a seat in the exact spot Mom sat in when she brought me in for my interview back in April. Not only was my spot absolutely perfect for people watching (the bar top was facing the sidewalk), it brought back memories from the day I walked around with butterflies in my stomach, hoping to nail my interview with Joan Roberts. I thought it was only fitting to eat in the same place I sat before walking over to Kleinfeld a few months back.

Anyway, after my little (tasty) sentimental lunch alone, I walked up and down a few streets and avenues and poked in a few shops to see what was around. Yesterday, I learned that every 20 city blocks equals about a mile, so that's a good rule of thumb to know when walking. Even though Trader Joe's is across the street from Kleinfeld, I headed to the Whole Foods Market, which is a couple blocks away, to do some shopping. I'm always like a kid in a candy shop at Whole Foods, but I managed to contain my excitement and get only what I needed.

If I didn't need to get cold foods, I would've walked around some more after shopping, but I'm not a fan of bad Greek yogurt. On the train back, the group of 3 dancers that I've been actually really wanting to watch came on, but once again, someone's head was blocking my view! On the bright side, I'm sure I'll get more chances, since I have to take that train to work everyday.

I just woke up from a much needed nap and am enjoying the breeze coming in from the windows in our living room. To be honest, I'm missing my back deck and yard a lot right now (one of the downsides of city living). But, at the same time, I could always head into Central Park and lay there for a while...

Dress-Up Day

Tuesday is a weird day.... I have off Monday and Wednesday, so going into work today and having off tomorrow feels pretty odd! Anyway, I once again arrived too early this morning, so I stopped at Starbucks and had my first Pumpkin Spice Latte. I have to admit, it did make me excited for fall... We had our morning meeting out on the main floor today. Nicole and Kim (two Directors) showed off the new Augusta Jones dresses which were really pretty! I also met a consultant who has been on vacation. After the meeting, Joan paired me with Rita, a consultant who has been with Kleinfeld for over 20 years. She is from Italy and there is a slight language barrier, but she was so funny and nice and kept me laughing the entire time! While there were over 70 appointments today, Rita and I only had two brides! The day was so slow for us, and therefore boring at times. I really did enjoy working with Rita, though. Because she has been with Kleinfeld for so long, she knows everything, and freely s...

Travel Guide: Barbados

Hi ya'll! Welcome to Friday. Amen, we've made it. In the beginning of February, I was lucky enough to escape the snowy cold of NYC (seriously, I missed a big snow storm that closed down my office), and headed to the beautiful island of Barbados. For those of you who know the name but can't point it out on a map, Barbados is a little island just southeast of Saint Lucia in the Caribbean. Brett's parents, Laura and Jim, vacationed to Barbados last year and were SO beyond kind enough to ask us to join them this year. A week away from work, a tropical island without sharks, and free tour guides (aka Brett's parents) -- who would say no to that?! For anyone looking to book a vacation, or anyone looking to torture themselves with really pretty pictures of a really pretty place, see below for a Barbados travel guide! The island was truly amazing, with friendly locals, beautiful beaches, and delicious cuisine, and I would absolutely return! I'm usually ready to ...

Closing the Chapter: Farewell to Astoria (and the Whole30)

Hi all! Happy weekend ~ I feel like my week days are getting longer and my weekends are getting shorter, but at least the sun has been shining, which means Summer is almost here! After a big internal debate, I decided to end my Whole30 three days early and treated myself to wine and cashew milk icecream Friday night. Caity and I took advantage of the nice weather and met up for dinner, and after that, I just kept going. A teeny part of me wishes I held out the last few days, and the other part of me doesn't regret it even one little bit. When I made the decision to begin the Whole30 (while I was vomiting into a garbage can in my kitchen with the stomach virus), I had hopes that I would learn what foods bothered my digestive system. Throughout the past 30  27 days, I have learned a ton of self control when it comes to eating (I used to have this, and then it all went away...), and have become aware of how much sugar is unnecessarily added into just about everything we eat. Becau...
