Hi all! Happy weekend ~ I feel like my week days are getting longer and my weekends are getting shorter, but at least the sun has been shining, which means Summer is almost here!
After a big internal debate, I decided to end my Whole30 three days early and treated myself to wine and cashew milk icecream Friday night. Caity and I took advantage of the nice weather and met up for dinner, and after that, I just kept going. A teeny part of me wishes I held out the last few days, and the other part of me doesn't regret it even one little bit. When I made the decision to begin the Whole30 (while I was vomiting into a garbage can in my kitchen with the stomach virus), I had hopes that I would learn what foods bothered my digestive system. Throughout the past30 27 days, I have learned a ton of self control when it comes to eating (I used to have this, and then it all went away...), and have become aware of how much sugar is unnecessarily added into just about everything we eat.
Because I have so many things going on in my life right now, I've decided to largely skip the re-introduction phase of the Whole30, and instead just be cautious about what I am eating, and not going back to eating "everything" at once. I have already decided that, in the beginning of 2018, I am going to follow the Whole30 again with more focus on the meal guides and how I'm building my plate, and hopefully at that point, I will be in a good place to re-introduce foods properly. Am I happy with the outcome? Yes. Can I do better? Yes, in the sense that I actually finish out the 30 days and re-introduce properly. For four weeks, I have really focused on each and every bit of food that I have put in my body, and I truly believe that I will continue to do the same.
In other news, I am really sad to say that Brett and I will be moving out of our apartment in Astoria by the end of the month. Last night, we took a walk in Astoria Park during sunset and I spent some time reflecting on how much I love my town. Astoria is filled with so, so many amazing memories, and this apartment means so much to me. Within these walls, I've been able to spend my first year (and change) living with my boyfriend and one of my best friends. I've learned how to be better at sharing and how to cook a mean meal using an iron skillet. I've learned that painting your apartment walls is so much better than living with the white walls (even if you have to paint them back before you move out), and that house plants really do make your life a bit brighter. Sunset dinners on our unfinished roof will always hold such a big spot in my heart, and I will greatly miss each and every one of the neighborhood dogs that I have befriended over the past 15 months.
On the bright side, this move out of Astoria is bringing some really crazy, fun, exciting things for Brett and I, and I can't wait to share more details with everyone over the next few months! I'll give you a hint -- it will definitely give me a lot to blog about ;)
