Despite my complete exhaustion from getting no sleep the night before, I met up with my cousin, Jack, yesterday at Penn Station and went out for lunch! It was so nice to see him! I spoke to a bunch of the interns at work about interesting places to eat in the city, and SMAC was among the places highly recommended. SMAC (www.smacnyc.com) is such a yummy macaroni and cheese place. It's done Panera style, where you order at the counter and seat yourself (although they bring the food over). The menu was really fun and filled with so many different macaroni and cheese mixes as well as the option to build your own. Jack got the buffalo chicken mac & cheese while I built my own with grilled chicken, scallions, and roasted tomatoes. They also offer delivery, and the delivery boys use bicycles. Couldn't help loving that! Anyway, I definitely would recommend it. The chocolate chip cookies were tasty too...
Today was a fine day at work, although I wouldn't consider it one of the best. I was placed to work with Rosaria, an older Italian woman who has been with the company for many years. Rosaria was nice, but to be honest, I like working with the younger consultants better. We have more in common, so we have a lot to talk about, and therefore there is a better vibe set during the appointments. I also have found that the younger consultants value my opinion more, so I am more welcome to become a part of the appointment instead of just acting as a second hand.
That being said, I spent most of the first appointment trying to determine where my boundaries were places. I had the feeling that Rosaria wanted me to hang back, although when I sensed that the bride wasn't connecting with her too much, I did offer my input. I ended up choosing the brides' favorite dress, a beautiful MZ2 (Mark Zunino's more affordable line made exclusive for Kleinfeld), although she didn't buy today because she wanted to bring her mother to the appointment. She may be back later this week, although you never know. I couldn't find a picture of the exact dress on the website, but I'll put up a picture of another MZ2 gown that looks incredible on! Unfortunately, the photo doesn't do it much justice, but you'll get the idea.
Another bride we had, from Italy, came in with her fiancée and a picture of an Augusta Jones gown that she loved. The gown was made of plain organza and was ruched all the way down. This bride really knew what she wanted, too, because Rosaria pulled the gown, and after putting it on her, the bride said "yes" right away! Needless to say, that was a very easy appointment.
During my lunch break, which was an hour long since the previous appointment was very quick, I wandered over to Trader Joes in search of a treat. I was really craving chocolate! A container of TJ chocolate covered raisins saved the day, and made a few of the other interns happy as well.
The final appointment of today that I'll chat was with a comeback bride of Rosaria's. The bride, who we'll call Gianna, came last week and picked out a gown that she later found herself doubting. The gown was a fit and flare, but, after looking at pictures of herself in it, Gianna realized that she wanted a more fitted, mermaid style gown. We wandered the show room and stock room with Gianna and her friend, chose a handful of gowns, and put Gianna in a Pnina Tornai that she fell in love with! The fit and corsets on Pnina's gowns do wonders, and Gianna couldn't help but staring at her figure. She said "yes" to the Pnina and cancelled the order of her previous dress.
I got back pretty late tonight and spent an hour chatting on the phone with my Momma. Now, I'm sitting here with my mug of extra hot tea, too much homework, and not enough motivation. Good thing I have time tomorrow to do some!
