My Week in Review / A Revisit to the Bucket List

I created my month long bucket list over a month ago, so it's safe to say that I'm not too great at bucket lists, but let's review:

1. Get tickets at the TKTS booth for a Broadway show.
  • Okay, not completed yet, but Tyler and I are going over break for Christmas gifts, so I'm getting there with that one..
2. Go ice skating at one (or all) of the outdoor rinks.
  • I brought my ice skates back after Thanksgiving but have yet to go... Does anyone want to go ice skating? SOS.
3. See a movie at the Loews Theatre with reclining chairs. (check.. almost)
  • Funny story about this one... On Thursday, Tess and I planned on going to see The Hunger Games at this theatre. I chose a movie time, met up with Tess, and we hiked it through the city in the below freezing temperatures.... towards the wrong theatre. TOTALLY my fault, I don't know how I managed that one. But it actually worked out well (I'll explain below) and we're going today, so that's soon to be checked off.
4. Visit the High Line at night. (check)
  • Done! A while ago. I'd go back any time though...
5. Shop the outdoor Christmas markets and buy pretty presents. (check)
  • Tess and I came across both Christmas markets and walked through them pretty quickly, because we wanted everything but had no money for anything. I think that counts..?
6. Walk through "The Mall" area in Central Park when there's snow on the trees. (check... almost)
  • This one isn't really my fault that it's not done yet. It's really Mother Nature's fault. BUT, it's snowing today, so I'm going!
7. Visit the Bronx Botanical Gardens to see the train show.
  • I went to go the other day with Tess. When we saw that the tickets were $20, poor college girl thoughts started pouring into our heads and we decided against it. Although I still want to see..
8. Walk the Brooklyn Bridge.
  • Let's be real, it's too freaking cold.
9. Museum hop. (check)
  • Well, when I messed up the whole movie theatre thing, Tess and I realized we were close to MoMA and went! I'm counting that as museum hopping. It was a ton of fun, although neither of us are intellectual enough for most of the pieces there. Whoops.
10. See the tree all lit up and pretty. (check)
  • After MoMA, we went to see the tree at Rockefeller Center and it was all lit up and pretty as expected. Perfection!
Anyway, this past week I also: ate dessert from Peanut Butter & Co., decorated two Christmas trees (plus 11, if you count last night...), dressed up as an elf, pretended to be a Long Beach resident, played with my Mama, opened my tea advent calendar every morning, and did everything possible to not think about it being my last week here in the city.

To elaborate on the whole 11 Christmas tree thing, yesterday, Tess and I helped my Dad's cousin with setting up for a company Christmas party at Cipriani in Manhattan. We woke up at 4:30 and worked from 6 AM to 11:30 PM, so extreme exhaustion does not even explain how I felt/am still feeling. My body hurts, but it was a ton of fun. Seeing the room come together after spending hours of decorating really is amazing. During the party, Tess and I dressed as the prettiest elves you've ever seen (hah) and helped Santa hand out gifts to all of the employee's children. I'm attaching a picture of my "pride and joy" area that I spent a majority of the set up working on.

Today, I'm going Christmas shopping, seeing Central Park in the show, watching The Hunger Games in the comfy theatre, and hugging Tess for forever because I don't want to say goodbye (she leaves for Chicago tomorrow). But first, I have to go see what I could possibly eat for breakfast. My food selection is really struggling.

Comments

  1. First of all you are my cousin. Just my second and not my first but cousin all the same. You and Tess were the cutest else ever! It was my pleasure to have you both and you were the best Santa's helpers that I could have ever asked for! I hope to have you both back for many years to come! Have a very Merry Christmas!!! With much love Cousin Ralph E

Travel Guide: Barbados

Hi ya'll! Welcome to Friday. Amen, we've made it. In the beginning of February, I was lucky enough to escape the snowy cold of NYC (seriously, I missed a big snow storm that closed down my office), and headed to the beautiful island of Barbados. For those of you who know the name but can't point it out on a map, Barbados is a little island just southeast of Saint Lucia in the Caribbean. Brett's parents, Laura and Jim, vacationed to Barbados last year and were SO beyond kind enough to ask us to join them this year. A week away from work, a tropical island without sharks, and free tour guides (aka Brett's parents) -- who would say no to that?! For anyone looking to book a vacation, or anyone looking to torture themselves with really pretty pictures of a really pretty place, see below for a Barbados travel guide! The island was truly amazing, with friendly locals, beautiful beaches, and delicious cuisine, and I would absolutely return! I'm usually ready to ...

Closing the Chapter: Farewell to Astoria (and the Whole30)

Hi all! Happy weekend ~ I feel like my week days are getting longer and my weekends are getting shorter, but at least the sun has been shining, which means Summer is almost here! After a big internal debate, I decided to end my Whole30 three days early and treated myself to wine and cashew milk icecream Friday night. Caity and I took advantage of the nice weather and met up for dinner, and after that, I just kept going. A teeny part of me wishes I held out the last few days, and the other part of me doesn't regret it even one little bit. When I made the decision to begin the Whole30 (while I was vomiting into a garbage can in my kitchen with the stomach virus), I had hopes that I would learn what foods bothered my digestive system. Throughout the past 30  27 days, I have learned a ton of self control when it comes to eating (I used to have this, and then it all went away...), and have become aware of how much sugar is unnecessarily added into just about everything we eat. Becau...

Shape Women's Half Marathon with a Stomach Virus

Hi Pals! I'm happy to say that I'm alive -- and anyone that was around me on Sunday will be glad to hear it! Good news : On Sunday, I accomplished what I once thought was an impossible task for me to complete, and I ran the Shape Women's Half Marathon in hilly Central Park! Bad news : Also on Sunday, I threw up eight times and suffered from the stomach virus (thanks, Brett!). Now, let's backtrack. If you've followed any of my last few posts, you will know that I signed up for the Shape Women's Half Marathon in January during a temporary lapse of judgement. Read about that here . After a few days of panic, I decided to become a superhero and start running (and yes, in my mind, that qualifies me as a superhero). From the slowest, hardest 2 miles in Barbados, to a spontaneous 7 mile run after work one day, to my furthest pre-race run at 9 miles, I laughed at myself for paying to run 13.1 miles, I almost cried at least one time each time I ran, and I justifi...
