Welcome to Little Italy!

Once again, I'm too full for my own good. I need to stop eating so much, but it's hard when delicious restaurants are on every corner! I'm looking forward to getting into a normal routine so I stop eating like a crazy person. But, on the other hand, any normal person turns into a crazy person in Little Italy. Today, Jackie and I decided to pick a place on the map where we have yet to see, and find our way in! We left around 4 o'clock, hoping we read the subway map right. After a pretty uneventful trip, we ended up in Chinatown and walked a few blocks into Little Italy. It was beautiful! While it's impossible to capture the magic of the real Italy, Little Italy did a pretty good job. The streets are closed off so you're able to walk in the middle of the road and try to choose between what must have been a hundred of Italian restaurants. Jackie and I ended up choosing "Giovanna's," partially because it looked cute and partially beca...

Tourist Fridays

Last night, Jackie and I ran to Tino's Deli to get gelato before it closed at 7:30... It was undoubtedly worth it! After that, we ended up going to the Fordham football game against URI, and despite the fact that we're juniors in college, we apparently had "FRESHMEN" written all over us. After an hour of people watching and involuntarily making small talk with an overly friendly freshman boy, Grace got out of class and joined us for dinner. Fordham won the game, but I'm not sure of the final score. Today was a very touristy day. We toured the United Nations building and walked around Times Square for a while. While a tour of the UN isn't really my thing, it was pretty interesting, and my odd tour group filled in the gaps. The overly eager Indian woman provided us with some entertainment... It was hard not to laugh when the tour guide got pissed because of her asking too many questions. Times Square was as busy as always! We saw where to buy the rush ticket...

What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?

Well I managed to drag my tired ass out of bed this morning for yet another eventful day! Last night I couldn't fall asleep for the life of it. Luckily, I've adapted to the noises of the city rather quickly, so those haven't been bothering me at night, but I guess my subconscious decided it would be great to feel tired and lazy all day. Despite my want to sleep more, today was incredibly humbling. For the service aspect of Orientation Week, Grace, Jackie and I volunteered at Karen's Daycare Center in the South Bronx this morning. Let my clarify this quickly: although I am living in the Bronx, I'm in a good area. The South Bronx is closer to what we would consider the "stereotypical Bronx," and the South South Bronx even more. This is where it gets worse, with the projects and bad activity. Anyway, this daycare center is actually in someone's home. We arrived around 10:00 A.M. and the children were watching an educational program on the television. Ja...

Three Things I Learned Today

1. Always bring an umbrella, raincoat, or something along those lines with you around the city unless you enjoy getting rained on. 2. Not everyone curbs their dogs. Watch out for poop -- if you step on it when wearing flip flops it can fling up onto your leg. 3. Sometimes an inconspicuous hallway is actually a men's restroom. Today was our trip into the Bronx Zoo. Cynthia brought her brother, Albert, to wheelchair her along (she's pregnant and looks about ready to pop!). The Zoo was great and the rain held off until the end of our trip. We had to take cover in the Congo for a while, but I was glad to leave after seeing the bats that were hanging from the ceiling had free roam. My first class at Fordham was tonight and seems like it'll be interesting! I got lost in the building a few times, so I look like a freshman without a doubt. The campus is beautiful, I really love it! Tomorrow night the football team has their opening game against URI. I believe...

Flats Aren't Always Feet Friendly

Although I consider myself a relatively fit person, my feet are killing me after todays walk! I wore my cute, new white and pink flats (hoping they will stay white for a while...) and am highly considering only wearing sneakers for the next few days. Despite that and the fact that my bananas from the market yesterday turned out to be terribly mushy, my day has been great! This morning we headed out to do a trial run of my commute to Kleinfeld. It's fairly easy: bus to train to another train. Kleinfeld is on 20th street, so the walk after getting off at 23rd is only two minutes. To make things even better, Trader Joes is across the street! I couldn't stop myself from taking a picture of Kleinfeld's new Fall display windows and trying not to start my first day right there. The excitement just keeps building! After wandering through some clothing stores and Starbucks, we traveled via bus to West 23rd street to meet with Surabhi from the AIC (Academic Intern Council). Their...

Off To the Bronx We Go

My Story: Last semester   I decided on a whim to apply to "Stonehill in New York," a program offered by my school that allows students to intern full time for a semester in the Big Apple. After being accepted, I immediately set my sights on Kleinfeld Bridal. What girl doesn't watch "Say Yes To The Dress" with wide eyes and jealous feelings and hope that they will be there one day?! Long story short, I was lucky enough to land the internship of my dreams as a Bridal Consultant Assistant at Kleinfeld Bridal! So now, here I am, a Long Island girl living in the Bronx, anxiously awaiting the adventure ahead. After renting a U-Haul to trek all of my things into the Bronx (my Grandma would've had a heart attack if she saw the amount of boxes I had) and close to 8 hours of decorating and redecorating I've made a comfy little space that I already know I won't want to leave. I'll post more pictures when finishing touches are completed. Today, I visited...
